“She gets stronger as the game goes, she builds her confidence,” said King Philip coach Kate Fallon-Comeau. “I think the team builds her confidence — she gets out of a jam like that, the confidence goes even higher. She threw a great game today, I’m proud of her.”

Despite her ability to generate whiffs, Walsh allowed herself to pitch to contact, trusting a skilled defense behind her. Sophom*ore center fielder Ali Gill made a long running catch on the warning track in the fourth inning to deny Peabody’s Kylie Doolin of extra bases and senior Ava Kelley showed quick hands at the hot corner.

“I tend to think I have to work around hitters, but knowing that I can work at them and knowing my teammates will make the plays is really nice,” said Walsh.

One batter after senior Taylor Regan scored senior Sydney Burch with a fielder’s choice in the third inning, Paschke looped a two-run single down the left-field line, pulling an outside pitch to put the Warriors firmly ahead.

Burch doubled home junior Allie Cecere an inning later. Cecere scored again in the sixth, capping off a two-hit afternoon.

“You’ve just got to tip your cap,” said first-year Peabody coach Steve Lomasney. “Some days, it’s not your day. Today, it was not ours, it was theirs, and it was because they earned it.”
