Today is #worldenvironmentday. With the theme of #GenerationRestoration let’s also talk tree planting. I’ll be honest tree planting is a topic I want to learn more about. Investing in the right type of tree planting schemes as a business its important to do your research. Anyone with experience of supporting tree planting schemes always happy to chat. So far we’ve partnered with Ecologi | B Corp™ to plant trees for specific tree planting campaigns. They also have a range of projects that support reforestation & carbon capture which is vital to restore biodiversity & reduce the impact of greenhouse gases. We’ll only look at additional tree planting once we’ve reduced as much carbon as we can within our annual targets. Maintaining soil health.. what has this got to do with me? It’s post 2/5 for world environment day tomorrow. With the theme of #GenerationRestoration maintaining soil health is a key area to support a thriving planet. Garden centres are now moving away from stocking compost with peat in it. Soil with peat in it releases huge amounts of CO2e into the atmosphere so some progress is been made there. 👩🌾Look out for Organic produce ( I’ve got a separate recommendation for local farm veg box on Thursday). You’ll also see more food brands talk about regenerative agriculture which is about improving soil health and maintaining bio-diversity. 🗑️Lastly you can invest in a hot bin composter. Which turns food waste into compost within 90 days. Every spring when I plant out new seedlings I fill my pots with a healthy dose of organic compost. This reduces the need for shop bought compost & supports insects. As well as allowing me to avoid more food waste going into landfill. 📷Picture of my HotBin composter a tall foam bin in the corner of the balcony & some of my sunflowers that grew from the compost I potted out.

🌍This coming Wednesday 5 June is world environment day. The theme is #GenerationRestoration “We cannot turn back time, but we can grow forests, green our cities, harvest rainwater and eat soil-friendly foods. We are the generation that can make peace with land” This week I will share a post each day with practical examples and tips of things we can all do to support restoring our planets vital natural resources. 🌧️First up is harvesting rain-water. We live in an apartment and for the last few years I’ve had a water butt which has just had the lid off and harvested rainfall.🚰Two week ago we installed our sunsail to deflect heat from the windows. It also doubles up as a great conduit for rain. So I moved the water butt directly under the sunsail and in 2 days of rainy Manchester weather I filled it full with 118 litres of water! 💡An average watering can holds about 5 litres of water. So 2 days of rainfall can cover 2 weeks of watering. Just think how much water we could save if we all installed water butts! Where’s May gone? I had some serious FOMO seeing so many former colleagues & digital delivery community folk at Agile Manchester last week. As we make career transitions there’s a period of adjustment, forging connections with new networks while leveraging learnings from other companies & industries. The last year has been a period of building my inner confidence while getting to grips with a new industry. I’m still learning ( aren’t we all) but feel energised about the opportunities to make an impact. May has flown by as I’ve been working across a range of initiatives.
