Napoleon Dynamite is BACK! Jon Heder reprises iconic role for funny ad (2024)

Actor Jon Heder has reprised his iconic role as Napoleon Dynamite in frozen food company Ore-Ida's new campaign.

In the popular 2004 comedy, Jon, now 46, portrayed a bullied nerdy teen, who helped his friend Pedro, played by Efren Ramirez, now 50, win the class presidency in their small town in southeasternIdaho.

During one of the notorious pop culture scenes, class bully Randy asks Napoleon to give him some of his tots that were stored in his pants' thigh pocket, and when he declines, Randy aggressively squashes them with his foot.

Now to mark the film's 20th anniversary, Napoleon is finally able to enjoy his snacks in peace, thanks to Ore-Ide's tot-protecting pants.

In the opening scene of the comedic video, the overlaid text reads: 'Somewhere near the Oregon-Idaho border.'

We see Napoleon's back, as he faces the field and says: '20 years later - still haunted by crushed tots.'

Viewers see him getting a flashback to the day that Randy asked him for tots in class, as the next scene quickly transitions to his tots getting crushed by the bully's shoe.

Napoleon aggressively hits his thigh out of frustration, and yells, 'dang,' in the field.

He turns around, and points to his grey pants, which features a red pocket with a zipper, as he tells viewers: 'Now from Ore-Ida, comes tot-protecting pants.'

Napoleon is seen kneeling down in front of the pants, and comedically blows a kiss to his tots inside the pocket, before an orange-colored van drives over them twice to check for durability.

The overlaid text humorously reads: 'Pants may not protect tots from getting crushed by vans IRL.'

He holds up a strong fist and blurts out, 'yes,' because the tots survived.

In the next scene, Napoleon is shown taking out his protected tots out of the pant pocket.

As he walked out of the frame with a plate of tots, he proclaimed: 'I'll eat as many as I want to, gosh!'

The brand captioned the video on social media: 'All your wildest dreams have come true.

'As the inventor of Tater Tots, we’re proud to introduce the solution to crushed tots [that] Napoleon fans have been waiting 20 years for.

'Go get your own tot-protecting pants while supplies last.'

According to Ore-Ida's press release, 'the innovative pants pays homage to the joggers Napoleon wears in the film, now with a one-of-a-kind "tot pocket" - inspired by real requests from lovers of the film.

'The dark gray pants feature a stylish, crocodile-print pattern, and [a] durable, food-safe pocket.

'Inspired by Uncle Rico’s Nupont Fiber, the pocket was specifically designed to protect tots and ensure they always remain crispy and fluffy.

'The limited-edition pants are available at www.ProtectYourTaterTots.comfor $20, while supplies last.'

The pants have already sold out, however, the brand is 'working on restocking,' according to the website.

Napoleon responds: 'No, go find your own.'

Randy continues to pester him and says: 'Come on, give me some of your tots.'

Napoleon remains adamant about not sharing, and replies: 'No, freaking, stop it. I didn't get to eat anything today.'

The memorable pop culture scene ends with Napoleon's tots getting crushed and then he blurted out: 'Oh god, gross. Freaking idiot.'

'But it feels more like a fantasy role than it did 20 years ago when it felt more like, "Okay, I'm closer to the actual age of Napoleon. This is my real hair. This is my world."

'It wasn't that long ago when I was sitting at my own desk in school drawing dragons and unicorns.

'This movie was very personal to me. I felt so much just lined up, I was like, "Yeah, I love tots."'

He added: 'There's so many things that Napoleon liked, or that he did, and I was like, "Yeah, these are the kind of things I did."

'Nine out of 10 times, I'll order the tots because they're great - I love them.

'But especially right after the movie, when I was much more recognized, people would be looking at me like, "Are you going to get some tots?"

'And there's that part of you who wants to say, "No, I'm an actor. It's just a movie." But I'm like, "Yeah, of course I do. Tots are incredible."'

Besides the iconic movie scene surrounding the tots drama, there was a 'magical thing' that happened while Jon was on set for the Ore-Ida commercial.

In the film, Napoleon has a pet llama named Tina, and when he arrived to shoot the ad, he fittingly saw'a llama literally sitting perched down, just hunkered in the shade of a tree.'

He shared: 'Nobody [from the crew] put it there. It felt like, "Oh my gosh, this is perfect," and he's directly behind me in the shot for almost the entire day we were shooting.'
