More than 1,950degrees were awarded at Florida Atlantic University's summer commencement ceremony, including more than 38 degrees awarded to students over 50, and six to students over 60. Among the graduates, the oldest is 86, and the youngest is 18.Of the 1,950 graduates, 514 are first-generation students, 59 graduated with a 4.0 GPA, and 32 countries were representedThese new graduates will join more than 208,000 alumni who have graduated from Florida Atlantic University since the University opened its doors in 1964. #HigherEdhttps://lnkd.in/e_vmnYpV

Florida Atlantic University has received $1.6 million from theGlenn W. Bailey Foundationto extend its Marine Science, Education, and Arts Scholars Program within the FAU Charles E. Schmidt College of Science Marine Science Laboratory.Housed in the Gumbo Limbo Environmental Complex, the program provides financial assistance to students who demonstrate academic excellence and a commitment to become ambassadors of community outreach focused on Florida Atlantic Marine Science Lab studies, discoveries, and activities. Theinitial giftto establish this was received in 2020, and this latest gift will extend the program for five more years. "The continued support of our students through this gift from the Glenn W. Bailey Foundation enables dreams to become realities, allowing our students to learn as they work in the lab with researchers, and become ambassadors sharing Florida Atlantic University's marine biology research discoveries to broad audiences,” said Jeanette Wyneken, Ph.D., director of the Marine Science Lab and professor of biological sciences in the Schmidt College of Science. The Florida Atlantic University’s Bridge Program is proud to be among the few universities bridging the gap between civil engineering students and global communities. Nicholas Moy and Rachel Maria Kavalakatt, students from Wilkes Honors College at Florida Atlantic University and Kenan Social Engagement Scholars, secured $16,000 in funding at e-Fest® - Home of The Schulze Entrepreneurship Challenge. This annual undergraduate entrepreneurship competition was recently held at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis.Their start-up company, Glaucova, which provides an affordable machine-learning glaucoma prescreening platform, initially received recognition through the Kenan Social Engagement Scholarship Program with a $2,500 start-up package. Competing in three events, Moy and Kavalakatt achieved first place in the Innovation Challenge, third in the Pitch Slam!, and fifth in the Schulze Entrepreneurship Challenge. #HigherEdhttps://lnkd.in/eS4Gc84v
